The stream I recorded from yesterday is now up online. It’s me compositing a 2D animated shot (Actually, two!) in After Effects from start to finish. This is for one of my projects of I’ve been on and off. Again, compositing is also known as “Post Production”, “Final Image” or “Polishing the poo”. I talk about direction, making stylistic choices, composition, cheating certain effects, etc.
Hello, friends! I gave a seminar on Adobe Flash last night, and figured I’d also put the slides online for anyone who was interested in learning the program! Because of file size/bandwidth limitations, I can’t upload any of the example FLA’s, but you could easily find alternatives on YouTube. The dog pictures also made more sense in context. Well, kind of
Tumblr hecked up the last few images in this post, so here’s an Imgur album of all of the slides at full resolution
Looking for an original name for your gemsona, one that a dozen people haven’t already used for their own designs?
Here are 400 suggestions.
Mostly
pure minerals, plus a mineraloid and a batch of rocks (this is
canon-compatible – pearl is a mineraloid, and lapis lauzuli is a rock).
Fluorescent minerals get a split-screen view: normal light on one side,
glowing on the other.
I checked whether they’d been used by
searching “steven universe [name]” on Google Images. Can’t guarantee
that they’re 100% unused as gemsonas – just that, at the time of
searching, they were too rare for Google.
…which was a serious surprise in some cases. There’s an IRL mineral called lulzacite and nobody’s jumped on that? Or on the design potential of antlerite? Doctor Who fans, who wants to take tennantite?

I’ve been asked a lot about tips for aspiring animators, so here are some ! Enjoy, I hope it will help some of you.
Oh, and for the ones wondering who I am, I’m a french 2D animator. I studied animation at Gobelins like 10 years ago and ever since I’ve been mostly working as a 2D animator for feature films, commercials, shorts and shows.
Animation is team work, your design must be easy to work with.
I use mainly the blue/red pencil tools! You can easily change their colors by turning them into brushes. With that said though, pretty much any kind of pencil or pastel imitation brush will probably serve you just as well to get that traditional dry media effect.
