Summary: While working on his mission with the Detroit PD, Connor meets someone new. Someone who starts to make big changes to his program.

A/N: ew im really bad at summaries. Also, I like how this turned out and I hope my detroit peeps like it. Connor is the sweetest and I love him with all my heart

“Connor!” Hank calls and the android turns his head towards the familiar voice, his hands neatly folded in his lap while he patiently waited for him to return to the department. The grumpy drunk didn’t normally show up early– it was rare to see him before noon– but today he is surprisingly punctual and, yet another surprise, the lieutenant is not alone. There’s another human walking with him, a girl. To anyone with a pulse and red blood running through their veins, she was beautiful. But Connor did not have a pulse, he didn’t have a heart, and the blood in his manufactured body was blue. To him, she was just another human; at least that’s what he tried to convince himself of.

The LED in the side of his head blinks as he does a facial scan, gaining her name, age, weight– he knew all of her personal information before she could even open her mouth.

“This is Y/N,” Hank says gesturing in her direction. “She’s going to be working the case with us from now on. Fowler thought we’d need more help.” He shrugs and sits down in the desk across from Connor. Y/N stands there for a moment, eyeing Connor, then she holds out her hand to him- it.

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you.” He hesitates a moment and then takes it.

“Hello, my name is Connor. I am the android sent by Cyberlife.” She smiles at his obviously programmed words.

“It’s always like that. You get used to the goofy voice after a while.” Hank mutters and the girl simply shrugs.

“I don’t know, I think I like his voice.” She laughs. Something goes off inside Connor. A small faint beep as letters appear in the corner of Connor’s vision, they’re quick to disappear– but he saw them. Software instability detected.

Connor’s brow furrows at the words but quickly puts his mind back to the task at hand. He turns to Hank as Y/N leans back on his desk, resting her hands against the cool surface. “What now, Lieutenant?” He asks and Hank groans but doesn’t say anything. “Hank?”

“Jeez, Connor! How about we don’t think about the case for right now-“

“But I have to finish my mission,” Connor cuts him off. “The faster we finish the faster I can leave you alone. That is what you want, isn’t it?” Y/N snorts a laugh quietly as Hank struggles to keep his tough exterior.

“N-no, I mean-“ Hank sputters. “How ‘bout you talk to Y/N for a while. You can bug her for a while.” With that Connor spins around to her and she looks down at him with a smile.

“Hello.” She says. Connor feels his temperature regulator rise in his cheeks. He hears a faint beep again but he ignores it. “What would you like to know?” She asks.

“Have you been apart of the police force for long?”

“No actually, I became a detective a few months ago. Graduated top of my class,” she crosses her arms over her chest proudly. “Fowler originally had me working with Gavin, but you could imagine how that went.” Connor cocks his head to the side.

“No… I couldn’t” She looks at him for a moment then laughs again, as the LED in the side of his head blinks yellow. “There have been reports of a possible deviant a few blocks away. Hank?”

Hank sighs and sits up, rubbing his hands over his face. “So much for getting to know her,” He grumbles. “Alright, fine. Pack your shit– lets move.”

“Nobody’s supposed to be living here. But a neighbor said he saw a man hiding an LED under his cap.” Connor says wandering up to the door and giving a quick knock. “Anybody home?” Hank shrugs when no one answers. “Open up! Detroit Police!”

There’s a thud and Y/N and Hank draw their guns in a deft motion.

“Stay behind me,” Hank says and kicks open the door. As he does, a myriad of pigeons flies into their faces. He curses as he starts to enter the home, waving off birds as they flock towards him. “What the shit?”

“RA9?” Y/N says, running her fingers through the paths of one of the mazes. “What is it.”

“It seems a type of god to the deviants,” Connor says from the other room. “There was evidence of this same kind of worship in Ortiz’s place.”

“Even androids have to believe in something.” She says, looking up at a hole in the ceiling. “Guys, I think he’s-” suddenly the deviant falls from the hole onto her, knocking her to the floor as he makes way towards the door.

“Y/N!” Connor cries, running to help her to her feet. “Are you alright?” She nods.

“I’m fine, I’m fine! Just get after him!” With that Connor’s gone, running down the target.

“Y/N! Let’s move!” Hank yells, running after him.

“We’ll never catch up to them! We need to go another way!” There was no way two humans would manage to get to two androids on foot, if they could they’d run until their power gave out and they just dropped dead. “The rooftops, can you make it?” Hank spins on his heel, offended at Y/N’s comment.

“I’m not that fuckin’ old-”

“Now isn’t the time to get defensive, Hank!” She shouts over her shoulder, turning a harsh right towards the buildings– keeping an eye on Connor and the deviant. Finally, there was a moment of promise, he was running straight towards a ledge, it would take him a minute to get going in a different direction. With Connor falling behind Y/N jumped to come and land right in front of the deviant.

“Freeze! If you stop now, maybe you won’t get hurt.” She says, raising her gun in front of her face. But he doesn’t, the deviant barrels straight towards her pushing her further and further towards the edge. Connor’s attention is stolen for a moment by Y/N’s scream as she begins to fall.

Suddenly glowing letters appear by Y/N’s hands, desperately clinging to the wall trying to pull herself up. Survival probability 89%. He had to finish his mission, Y/N would probably be fine, he must go after the deviant, but… damn it.

Connor runs towards her, grabbing her and pulling her up.

“Connor, he’s- he’s getting away.” She says shaking in his arms that were now wrapped around her backing her away from the ledge.

“I know. As long as you’re alright.”

“Your mission-”

“Are you alright, Y/N?” He asks. She nods bringing herself closer to his chest. “Good… good.”

“Connor,” Amanda coos softly as Connor’s eyes open to the zen garden where he’d regularly make updates to Cyberlife. “How are you?”

“I am fine.” He says, walking up behind her as she gives a final spray of water to the beautiful rose bush that spanned up the fence and towards the sky. “Hank and I are working towards finishing the mission, we’re close I think.”

“Are you?” She says, her voice feigning sweetness as she turns to him, an insecure smile across her face. “Because that last deviant got away.” He looks away from her, the bush across from him suddenly becoming extremely interesting. “Who is that new girl that came in with Hank?”

“Her name is Y/N L/N. She has been assigned to work this case with Hank and me. She seems like a very hard worker-”

“Yes, that’s all well and good but who is she to you, Connor?”

“I… I like her.” Amanda gives a disapproving hum, turning her back on him. “L-like I said she’s a hard worker, I think she’d be helpful during the mission.” She says nothing, it’s like he’s not even there to her anymore. “There’s nothing more than that.” Still, more silence. “Amanda, I-”

“There have been minute malfunctions detected in your software, should Cyberlife be concerned?”

“N-no. Not at, all. Minor glitches, I have it under control.” She hums again.

“I expect positive reports the next time I see you.” Amanda turns to him, a disappointed scowl on her face. “Do not disappoint.”

“What are you doing?” Connor blinks again and he’s back at the DPD, sitting across from Y/N as she nervously bounces her leg and bites at the skin around her nails.

“I am making a report to Cyberlife.” She nods silently, her eyes flitting away from his face and back to nothing. “I’m sorry if it made you uncomfortable-”

“No, no. You’re fine– it’s fine.” She says quietly. Hank has been gone for a while, probably giving his reports of the case to Fowler, perhaps also getting a drink. But it was just her and Connor for now. His LED blinks yellow again, as he looks at her. Her heart rate is elevated, her eyes seem to have glazed over, something is wrong.

“Are you alright, Y/N?” He asks and she looks up at him again. “You seem upset?”

“I… I’m fine.” Connor frowns at her and she rolls her eyes. “Stop acting like your seeing through me, I’m fine.”

“I cannot see through you.” He says bluntly. “But I can gauge how your feeling based on the scans that I take of you.”

She laughs. “You must be just the best date.” He makes a remark about not understanding and Y/N holds a hand up to stop talking. “You could have caught him.” She says quietly. “But you decided to save me. Why?”

“I’m not sure. Does it matter? You could have been hurt.” Her cheeks tinge pink.

“Thank you, Connor.” He offers her a small smile and a nod in return as the patter of rain hitting the station windows catches their attention. “Oh shit,” Y/N stands and collects her things. “I have to walk home, my car’s in the shop and-”

“I could walk with you if you’d like? I’d like to know that you got home safely.” Connor stands too, starting to follow her out the door.

“You don’t have to do that. I’m sure I’ll be fine.”

“Please, I’d like to.” They look at each other for a minute and then she finally says-

“Okay.”

Connor goes to the door, holding it open for her as they step out into the rain that was now starting to pour. Y/N’s damp hair begins to stick to her face as she starts to shiver. They aren’t walking very fast, though the heavy rain suggested that they should but here they were– strolling side by side as the rain poured over their bodies.

“You are cold,” Connor says inching closer to her, she shakes her head. “Here, let me,” Suddenly she can feel warmth radiating off of him, immediately relaxing into the newly found comfort.

“Wow, that’s amazing.” She laughs. “How’d you do that?”

“I have a thermal regulator in my system, occasionally I am able to adjust it for a period of time.”

“Won’t you overheat?”

Connor shakes his head, although he could see glowing signs, warning him about his internal temperature levels. She smiles gratefully at him as they continue to walk down the streets of Detroit. They walk in silence, the occasional honk of a car and the sound of their feet hitting the wet pavement was the only thing breaking it until they stop at the foot of an apartment building.

“This is me. Thank you again, Connor. You really didn’t need to do this.”

“It was my pleasure.” He smiles.

“Where are you going to go?” She asks and he vaguely gestures back towards the station. “That’s where you sleep?”

“I do not really need sleep. Occasionally I’ll reboot my systems but that tends to be the closest I get to it.” She laughs again and his thirium pump skips. “I will leave now,” Connor says, awkwardly starting to turn away from her.

“Oh, alright. Uh, Connor?” she stops him by his wrist and stands to press a kiss to his cheek. His pump was going crazy now. “Thank you, again.” She quickly looks away from him, a tiny smile playing at her lips as she walks up towards the door of her building. There’s a beep again. Louder, more urgent this time.
